That is the question!
A cover letter compliments how your skills and accomplishments (résumé), along with the value you bring to a potential employer, make you an outstanding candidate for that particular position.
Some will say that they never get read or are not important, but what about the couple of times that it is important and sets you apart?
Would you rather have a cover letter ready to customize or scramble to put one together last minute that is not as impactful?
Never send a résumé to a potential employer or recruiter without a good cover letter. The letter underscores how your skills and accomplishments, along with your career goals, make you an outstanding candidate for that particular position.
General cover letter do's and don'ts:
Even if you are sending a résumé electronically via an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), there is likely the chance to copy and paste your cover letter on the application or to send as an attachment. If this option is provided, take advantage of it. You'll set yourself apart from the rest!
